Media Center Philosophy

The goal of the Media Center is to support the instructional program at Julius West Middle School and to provide students access to print, non-print and electronic resources which enable them to complete their research assignments. The objectives of the Library Media Program include an instructional program to develop a systematic mode of inquiry and research aligned with the curriculum, the development of information literacy skills, and access to literature and technology. Through flexible scheduling and collaboration with teams, students develop skills in selecting, accessing, and evaluating information in a variety of formats, including, print, non-print and electronic (online) sources.

The library media program strives to help teachers to reach their goals by providing assistance in class projects and activities (classroom collections, curricular support, and selection of materials).  It is also our goal to implement a research program that will provide our students with the skills needed to critically utilize information in this information-rich age, and to promote intellectual freedom--the freedom to seek answers and to have thought-provoking opinions and discussions. The Media Center also contains a wide selection of recreational reading materials to appeal to a variety of tastes and reading abilities.
