Introduction
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is one of three programs developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. It is a five- year program designed for students in grades 6-10. The Middle Years Programme shares common educational principles with the IB Primary Years Program and the IB Diploma Program, including and aim to develop internationally-minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.
All IB programs strive to develop a community of inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and risk-takers who are knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, caring, balanced, and reflective (IB Learner Profile Characteristics).
The overall goal of the Middle Years Programme is to encourage students to become life long learners, critical thinkers and responsible global citizens. The fundamental concepts of the program include:
- making connections among subjects and relating in-school learning to the outside world
- developing an appreciation of world cultures
- developing effective communication skills, including the study of a foreign language
Program History
All 6th, 7th and 8th graders who live in our attendance area are a part of the program and there is no application procedure. Academic progress and course selection will determine which students will be good candidates for continuing in the Middle Years Programme in high school.
