PTSA Hosts MOCK SAT/PSAT Test - September 20, 2008
The PTSA will administer a mock SAT/PSAT test on September 20 at 9:00 am. at Watkins Mill H.S. The test will help students determine their strenths and weakness in each test section. Test results and SAT/PSAT workshop will be held on 10/1/2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Registration Fee: $10.00. Late registration:$15.00 after 9/15. Senior Information Night Wednesday, September 24 7:00 p.m. Auditorium Parents of seniors, please join us on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium as we explain the college application process including testing information, the request of official transcripts, teacher recommendations, financial aid and scholarships, and career options for those students not pursuing a college degree. In addition, the senior class advisors, Ms. Nina Motyka and Ms. Laura Salatto, will discuss senior class fees.
2008 College Expo - October 7, 2008
The College Expo will be on October 7, 2008 at the Discovery Sports Center in Germantown. The Fair will be in the morning and many colleges and universities will be present. We will leave school at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 11:15 a.m. There is no cost to attend. Interested students must have a signed permission slip to attend. Please see Mrs. Prochnow in the Career Center for forms. In addition, there will be evening seminars from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for parents. Various speakers will discuss athletic recruiting, financial aid and scholarship information. This fair is for seniors who are behind on their search and juniors who want to get a head start. The deadline to turn in signed permission slips to Mrs. Prochnow is October 1.
Designed to assist and encourage students as they prepare to take the SAT, SAT Skills Insight is a helpful, easy-to-use tool that gives high school students a better understanding of what's tested on the SAT – specifically, the types of skills they need to perform better in the classroom, on the test and in college. It provides real SAT questions and answers, suggestions for improvement, and guidance on how students can sharpen their skills, allowing them to become more comfortable with the types of questions they will see on the SAT.
The SAT will be given at WMHS on November 1, 2008 and January 24, 2009.
The ACT will be given at WMHS on December 13, 2008.
*NOTE: ACT offers an optional 30 minute writing test for all 2008-2009 test dates. The SAT writing section is not optional. Be advised that colleges and universities would like to see a student writing sample prior to admission, therefore students are encouraged to sign up for the writing section of the ACT.
