Cougars in Action

The following Cougars are getting involved, either through organizing events,
raising money for charity or they have recently been recognized for
outstanding effort in Academics, Extracurriculars, or the Community!  Good
luck and congratulations!

  • ACT-SO Competition - Elisse Kumah, a 10th grade student at Quince Orchard, won a Bronze medal in the Drawing category this past Saturday, April 5th in the ACT-SO Competition, which is sponsored by Montgomery College and the NAACP. ACT-SO stands for the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological & Scientific Olympics and is a major national youth initiative. The local competition showcases the hard work and academic and artistic talents of the students.
  • AVON Breast Cancer Walk - Devin Cain and Zoey Cain are walking the 40 mile walk in memory of their mother who passed away from Breast Cancer over 10 years ago. Their friends-Mauricio Defngin, Renzo Reyes, Jose Valdez, and Maria Newlands are walking with them. To participate in the walk, each group member must raise at least $1800. To donate, you just have to follow the link below and then click on the "Donate To Team" Button. You can also donate to an individual member of the team by clicking on their name and going to their individual walk team  
  • Congressional Art Competition Winners - Congratulations to all that entered, QO is lucky enough to have 5 wonderful artists selected as finalists this year in Maryland's 6th District Competition and one of our students, Alexa Thompson, was the overall winner!  See their art below!
  • Destination Imagination - On Saturday April 5th two teams from Quince Orchard High School competed at the Maryland State Destination Imagination tournament. 
    • Our first team, Team Husted, was competing in the Theater Arts challenge at the secondary school level. The team did well at the tournament and senior Sarah Husted recieved a scholarship for her essay on the influence DI has had on her and in recognition of her work as the manager of her younger brother's team.
    • The second team, Pounds of Grapefruit, represented the school in the Improv challenge at the University level. The team members include QO senior Kathie Rogers and QO alumni Katie McNeilly and Jackie Rogers. The team will advance to the Global finals in Knoxville, TN for the third year in a row (their 4th time overall).
  • Jam Against Genocide - Shop’s annual Jam Against Genocide will be held on April 24 in the courtyard from 7-9:30PM.  Tickets are $5. 
  • Reflections-Believe, Dream and Inspire - In December, many talented QO students submitted artwork for the Reflections Arts Program with the theme of Believe, Dream and Inspire.  A panel of judges chose four students whose work was submitted to MCCPTA.   Congratulations to Ting Chen, Alexa Thompson, Kathie Rogers and Laura Crooks- Howard!  The Reflections Gallery and Ceremony will be at Clarksburg High School on Saturday, May 10th, 3:30 to 6:00 in the auditorium.  Our students will be receiving the following awards:
    • Visual Arts Award of Excellence for Outstanding Interpretation of the Theme-Ting Chen
    • Visual Arts Award of Merit/Honorable Mention-Alexa Thompson
    • Photography Award of Merit/Honorable Mention-Kathie Rogers and Laura Crooks-Howard
