Greenwood is awarded and recognized for service to the community and positive character practices for 2010-20011 by the Maryland Center For Character Education.

Welcome!!

I am so proud to be the School Counselor at Greenwood Elementary School.  Elementary Counselors, like teachers, are professional educators.  We use a guidance/counseling curriculum for instruction (K-5).  My goal is to visit every classroom at least once a month to teach lessons that are developmentally appropriate to every grade level.  School counselors focus on the varying social, emotional, academic, career awareness, and health needs of students in the school. We work collaboratively with parents, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to help students achieve school success.  The Greenwood Counseling Program is designed to help students as they develop good life-long learning, decision-making, and social skills, as well as good character traits.

The Greenwood Elementary School Counseling Program includes services that fall into these four categories:

1.      Guidance/Counseling Curriculum- MCPS (K-5)        3.    Responsive Counseling

2.      Individual Counseling                                             4.    System Support

Guidance/Counseling Curriculum:  Four components make up the guidance/counseling curriculum: Personal & Social Development, Academic Development, Career Development, and Health.  These components are delivered through classroom counseling lessons and small group activities.

Individual Counseling:  Through this service, counselors help students with goal-setting, academic, social, and emotional issues on an individual basis.

Responsive CounselingThese services are delivered as needed, and address immediate or urgent needs of students, groups or families, usually necessitated by life events or situations in the students’ lives.

Systems Support:  These services help to support Greenwood’s parents, students, and staff throughout the school year.  Some of these services include, but are not limited to:

  • Scheduling Character education assemblies or guest speakers
  • Coordinating the Safety Patrols
  • 7 Effective Habits(Covey),  and  Being A Good Citizen programs
  • Coordinating “counselor nights”  or parent workshops/ parent support groups
  •  Special Education, Educational Management Team (EMTs), Student Support, Instructional Leadership Team(ILT),  School Improvement Planning(SIP), 504 case manager
  •  Staff training

Feel free to contact me by phone or email.  If I do not return a call or email within 24 hours during the school week, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
