Student Service Learning (SSL)
Documentation of service occurring throughout the summer will be reflected on the first report card of the 2010-11 school year, and they must be submitted by the last Friday in September. (September 24, 2010)
The award of SSL hours outside of the instructional day (before school, lunchtime, after school) is one SSL hour for every hour of service within a 24 hours period. NO EXCEPTIONS. 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
An award opportunity for students who have engaged in a volunteer opportunity that occurred, at least in part, after September 1, 2009.

- November 1, 2010: Deadline for students to complete applications online, submit applications to the school principal, and fax signed signature page to (615) 627-9697
- November 2-8 Applications are reviewed
- February 8, 2011 Judges names the top middle and high school youth volunteer in each state
- April 30-May 3, 2011 State Honorees attend national recognition in Washington DC
SSL Opportunities
Volunteer at the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless
Did you know that there are over 1200 homeless men, women and children in Montgomery County? The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless seeks compassionate volunteers to make this holiday season memorable for people experiencing homelessness right here in our county.
Ways to help include:
- Holding a holiday collection drive for items such as gift cards, toiletries or toys
- Fulfilling a homeless individual’s holiday wish list
- Helping us wrap gifts
- Preparing bagged lunches or cooking a hot meal
