There is a new program at Blake to support students, it’s call the Blake Student Assistance Program and the goal is to identify students whose attendance, grades, or other behaviors indicate that they may have problems related to alcohol and/or other drug use, violence or mental health concerns. Through the different steps that comprise the BSAP process, interventions are held with parents and students to provide families with help for these concerns. Students may be referred by staff members, students, parents, or community members by filling out a “Concern Form” and anonymously dropping it in one of three BSAP Mailboxes or getting the form to Jean Smith, the BSAP Team Leader. The goal is to link students and their families to non-disciplinary resources outside of school that could be of assistance. For more information you may contact Ms. Smith at Jean_A_Smith@mcpsmd.org or 301-879-1310.
The PSAT will be administered to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students during school on Oct 14. Juniors must bring their pink PSAT registration form and $13 to the School Counseling Office before Oct. 9th. This test determines which juniors qualify for the National Merit or Achievement Scholarship Competitions and is a good indicator of how you may score on the SAT. Sophomores will take the test for free and Freshmen who wish to take the PSAT must register & pay the $13.
