Liverpool finished third in the Premiership in the 2006-2007 season with a total of 68 points. Arsenal also finished with 68 points, but Liverpool took the third position because of tiebreakers. Liverpool and Arsenal were distant finishers in the top four behind the champion Manchester United, who finished with 89 points, and Chelsea, who finished with 83. Liverpool's leading scorer for the season was Dirk Kuyt, with 12 goals, followed by Peter Crouch, with 9. Kuyt and Crouch are decent players, but Liverpool mostly relied on very strong play from defenders Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher throughout the season. Liverpool's last Premiership title was in 1990. They have been far more successful in tournament style Cups as opposed to the Premiership which rewards points for wins and draws over a long season. Liverpool has won 12 Cups since their last Premiership title. |
