Anfield is the home stadium for Liverpool Football Club. It was first established as a football venue in 1884 when Everton Football Club, another Liverpool(the city) based club used it as their home stadium. Anfield features two gates dedicated to commemorating managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley. It features a section behind one of the goals known as the Kop(named after a mountain). The Kop is famous for holding the most intense and fiery fans in all of England. The average attendance at Anfield is around 45,000. Record attendance was 61,905 for an F.A. Cup match against Wolverhampton. Because Anfield is undersized compared to many other English football stadiums, Liverpool have approved a plan for a new stadium that seats 70,000. |
