Liverpool FC

Liverpool Football Club is the most historically successful club in England. Liverpool has won the Premiership title eighteen times since their founding in 1892. Their most productive years were the early 1960's to early 1980's, in which they won the Premiership title nine times. Managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley won a combined nine league titles between them. Liverpool also has a history of success in European competition, they have won the European Cup, now called the Champions League, five times, the most recent being 2005. In 2001 they completed a historic Treble, winning the Premiership, the FA Cup(a tournament for every football club in England), and the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool's history also includes a tragedy, the Hillsborough Disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans were killed during a human crush as they were mercilessly pushed into a restraining fence. The tragedy was ruled as a failure by police to control the influx of fans into the stadium, far more fans were let in than the stadium capacity allowed.
