 Goals

The MCPS World Languages program is based on the five goals of language learning – Communications, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities as defined by the National Standards for Language Learning.  Wood’s program emphasizes using language as it is used in real life situations.

Students will learn to use Spanish or French for meaningful spoken and written communication.  Also, they will develop sensitivity to the culture and linguistic heritage of other groups and an understanding of their influence on their own culture.  Finally, they will relate the content that they are learning in other academic areas to the content in their world language classes.

High school credit is granted to middle school students who successfully complete high school level world language courses while in middle school.  Students must successfully complete county required quarterly assessments (IPA's)
