Hello everyone!  My name is Mrs. Glaser.  I am so happy to be your school counselor, and I am very excited to be opening Snowden Farm Elementary School together! I am looking forward to building a wonderful school community that is filled with kind, respectful and considerate individuals.  We will build meaningful friendships and learn a great deal about how to be our very best selves!

For the past 25 years I have been a classroom teacher, and I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade, as well as Reading Initiative and ESOL.  I feel so fortunate that I get to work with students every day, because it is truly what I love to do.  I cannot wait to make meaningful, positive connections with SFES students! My group counseling lessons and classroom lessons are always fun! I enjoy using lots of interactive, creative activities to spark students’ curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and help them to reach their personal goals and highest potential. I like to think of my counseling and teaching style as “edutainment!”

I grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.  Growing up, I enjoyed the theatre, and my family and I would go to New York City often to see Broadway shows.  My mother is an artist, and my father’s family was very involved in the theatre.  I, too, became interested in performing arts and signed up for classes in acting, dancing and singing.  I remember how exciting it felt to perform in my first play when I was in fifth grade.  In high school, I was in a Broadway Revue that toured in Italy, Austria and Germany.  It was an amazing experience that I will never forget!  I moved to the Washington DC area when I went to college at American University.  I graduated with a degree in elementary education and then obtained my master’s degree in counseling from Johns Hopkins University.

I met my wonderful husband, Matthew, after college.  We have a spunky 9-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever named Nellie who actually smiles, and two terrific children.  My son Max is entering 10th grade at Wootton High School, and my daughter Jamie is a sophomore at University of Maryland.  I am sure you will get to meet them in the future, and when you visit my office, I will be sure to show you photos of my family and my SMILING dog!

I am looking forward to a fantastic year with the students and families in this wonderful community! I can hardly wait to get to know each of you! This year we will develop positive relationships as we grow academically, socially and emotionally. We will work hard, create a caring school community and have a year full of new adventures and fun learning experiences! Get excited for the year ahead! I am looking forward to a sensational 1st year at Snowden Farm Elementary School!
