What’s happening in Kindergarten this quarter?
We are off to a great start this year! We are getting to know each other and our classrooms are busy with activity!
In reading, we will work on identifying the characters and settings of a story. We will work on naming the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. By the end of the month, we will begin our daily small group reading instruction. Books will be sent home each night. Please be sure to read with your child every day.
In math, we began our year by learning positional words such as above, below, between, top, middle, and bottom. We have started our unit on geometry. We will name the 2D shapes and identify the number of corners and sides of each shape. We will then move onto graphs, patterns, and matching numbers to sets of objects.
Our focus in science is on the weather. We will name different types of weather and identify what we would need for each type of weather. For example, what would we need on a rainy day?
In social studies, we are learning about rules at school and at home and identifying why we have rules.
Social and Emotional
At the beginning of the year, we spend a lot of time learning new routines and getting to know our names.
Looking ahead, we will be going on a field trip to Butler's Orchard at the end of October. We will send home more information on the trip at the beginning of October.
