We are excited to welcome all incoming kindergarten students and students who are new to Matsunaga Elementary School for Transition Day!

Please note that Transition Day is optional and is not a required day of school. However, we hope students will participate, as it is a valuable opportunity to meet their teachers, explore the school, participate in specialist classes, enjoy lunch and recess with other new students, and become familiar with school-day routines in a calm and welcoming environment.

 

We encourage students to travel to and from school using the same transportation method they will typically use during the school year. Practicing their regular routine on Transition Day will help them feel more confident and prepared for the first day of school. An assigned MES staff member will ride each bus in the morning to ease any jitters and ensure that every student gets where they need to be.

 

Kindergarten families of bus riders are welcome to put their child on the bus and then travel separately to school to join them for the morning Kindergarten Family Sneak Peek. This allows students to practice riding the bus while their families still participate in the event. The student drop-off loop and designated walker entrances will also be open on Monday for students who will typically arrive by car or on foot.

 

Kindergarten families are invited to attend the morning Sneak Peek (9:15-10:15 a.m.), and families of new students in grades 1–5 are invited to attend the afternoon Sneak Peek from 2:00–3:00 p.m. A detailed schedule is included below.

 

We strongly encourage families to allow their children to remain at school for the entire day and dismiss according to their regular transportation plan. If you prefer for your child to attend only part of the day, you may:

 

Take your child home following the morning Kindergarten Family Open House at 9:45 a.m.

 

Pick up your child after lunch and recess at 1:15 p.m.

 

Please do not plan to pick up your child immediately before or during the grades 1–5 Sneak Peek from 2:00–3:00 p.m. This will be a particularly busy time in the building, and we will not be able to bring students to the office for early dismissal.

 

Our goal is to help every child feel comfortable, confident, and excited about beginning their journey at MES. We cannot wait to welcome our newest Geckos!
