Instructional Leadership Team:

The Instructional Leadership Team collaborates to communicate effectively with stakeholders, promote a positive professional learning community, support staff through professional development, model best instructional practices, and monitor School Improvement Plan goals. Staff members and parents monitor and evaluate action plans at monthly SIP reviews. The four goal groups communicate with other stakeholders verbally and electronically through meetings and monitoring sheets.

Dr. Sophia Grant-Dewitt

Dr. Sofía Grant-Dewitt is the Principal of Gaithersburg Middle School. Her work and research interests include race and cultural proficiency, social-emotional learning, and the triumphs and challenges of Latina leaders pursuing principalship. Before becoming a Principal, she served as a Principal Intern, Assistant Principal, English Language Development Resource teacher, and Spanish teacher. This 2023 MCPS Distinguished Service to Public Education award winner received her Dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Marketing and Family Science from the University of Maryland-College Park, a Master’s in Secondary Education from Johns Hopkins University, a second Master’s in Equity and Excellence in Education from McDaniel College, and her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Howard University. She shares her life with her husband and four dogs. Dr. Grant is looking forward to working together with all staff, students, and stakeholders to make GMS a place where Global Minds Succeed, Together. Her core values are efficiency, innovation, equity, and sensibility.

Ms. Erminia Rosanova

Erminia Rosanova is thrilled to serve as the 6th grade Assistant Principal at Gaithersburg Middle School. She began her career in Montgomery County Public Schools as a middle school Spanish teacher and has since held various positions, including Consulting Teacher, World Languages Resource Teacher, and World Languages Instructional Specialist. Entering her third year at GMS, Erminia is excited to be part of this wonderful community and looks forward to a successful and engaging school year with staff, students, and families.

Mrs. Cressi Boston-Mayo

Cressi Boston-Mayo has been an educator for over 20 years, teaching grades K-6. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, she developed a love for language, literacy, and literature, and is passionate about teaching, building strong teams, and creating a positive school culture. She believes in balancing high expectations, high-quality education, and culturally relevant practices to help students exceed expectations. Cressi holds a BA in Elementary Education with a minor in English and Journalism, an MA in Educational Leadership, and is currently a doctoral student at Bowie State University studying Educational Leadership and Literacy. She has served as an ELA Focus Teacher for five years and as an Assistant School Administrator for two years at South Lake Elementary School. Supported by her husband ASA and their children, Derek, Asa, and Abraham, Cressi enjoys learning, traveling, beach outings, writing, and tacos. She is excited to join the GMS Viking community and looks forward to working with everyone. One of her favorite quotes is, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Mr. Kenny Bey

With over 20 years of educational experience, Kenny Bey brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Gaithersburg Middle School, where he is thrilled to serve as the new Assistant School Administrator. His commitment to fostering inclusive and engaging learning environments ensures every student thrives. Beyond the classroom, Kenny is an avid traveler who enjoys exploring new cultures and cuisines, reading, stargazing, and hearing diverse stories. He believes an open heart leads to an open mind, guiding his approach to education and life. Residing in Silver Spring with his wife Veronica and their children, Destiny and Dayson, Kenny is inspired and grounded by his family. He looks forward to contributing to Gaithersburg Middle School’s mission of excellence and growth for all students.
