Capital Improvement Program Advocacy to Reduce Over-Crowding at College Gardens ES and Julius West MS

BOE Boundaries and Facilities Hearing TONIGHT (Monday, Nov. 14th)

 DLRP_logo

Tonight, November 14th beginning at 7:00 p.m., in the Auditorium of the Carver Educational Services Center (CESC) at 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, MD, the MCPS Board of Education (BOE) will hold a hearing to provide stakeholders an opportunity to share input.  At this time, our Richard Montgomery HS Cluster testimony is scheduled for 8:06 p.m.  We will need bodies in school colors to stand and hold signs while the cluster reps testify to our CIP needs in front of the BOE.  The BOE is voting on the CIP budget in mid-November, so it is critical that they see voters at this meeting standing up for what we want them to fund. As you know, the bigger the turnout, the more impact our testimony on how to relieve the over-crowding in our cluster will have. MCCPTA Cluster Coordinators will also be speaking on behalf of the cluster.

If you know of any parents who are not yet in the school systems (those with preschoolers) please encourage them to show up as well as they will be directly affected by the funding that is received now.

For our Richard Montgomery cluster (Beall, College Gardens, Ritchie Park, Twinbrook, JW, RM) go to: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/planning/PDF/CIP13_Ch4_MontgomeryR.pdf

Rain, Rain, Another Inside Recess Day

Indoor Recess

Do you ever wonder what happens during indoor recess? Many students play games stored in the Indoor Recess Kits. The PTA is working with school staff to expand and update these kits. Please donate new or gently used games that can be played in the classrooms by small groups, such as board games. Please place your donations in the Teacher’s Lounge. Questions? Contact Gegi Leeger, GegiPTA@hotmail.com or Kate Savage, katherine_savage@mcpsmd.org.

Labels for Education

Labels for Education logo

Along with collecting Box Tops, the PTA will also be participating in the Labels for Education program. Basically CGES earns points (which turns into free "stuff") by parents clipping UPC codes and bottle caps. To view a list of participating items, go to:http://www.labelsforeducation.com/How-to-Earn/Participating-Products. There are thousands of products that we can turn into "stuff" for our school. Examples: BIC (pens), Campbell's soup, Glad products, Pop Secret, Dannon kids yogurt, Time magazines, and V8 beverages to name a few.

So before you throw that UPC into the trash, double check because you could be throwing away $$$$. Simply collect the UPCs and when your "bag" is full, turn them into your classroom teacher. For questions or to help, contact our Labels for Education Coordinator Sylva Kholanian-Faul at sylvakf@gmail.com.
