July 27, 2010

Dear Westbrook Families,

Greetings from your new principal!  I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with the Westbrook community.  I wanted to introduce myself and tell you more about me.

I have been in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) for the last fifteen years.  I taught for eight years at Carderock Springs ES, was at Highland ES as an assistant principal for two years, and spent the last five years as principal at Damascus ES.  As a previous teacher and current resident in the Bethesda area, I am excited to be returning.

On a more personal note, I was raised in Albany, New York and originally moved to the Washington, DC area in 1993 to pursue my master’s degree in teaching.  Once I was here I fell in love with the area and have remained since then.  Although I have no immediate family in the area, I have extended family with whom I am very close: a cousin, her husband and two boys, whom I call my nephews.  I do not have children of my own, but consider my two nephews and two nieces (who live in Manhattan with my older sister and her husband) the world.  My younger sister and I are very close and travel together quite frequently.  When I am not working I enjoy golfing, hiking, biking and swimming, and downhill skiing in the winter.  In addition I am an avid reader.

There is so much more I could share, but we have plenty of time to get to know one another.  I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know all the families of Westbrook.  When you come by to use the playground or fields, or on your way home from the pool, stop by and say hello.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and I will see you all very soon!

Sincerely,

Rebecca A. Jones
