About Our School
Located in the former Montgomery Blair High School, our beautiful facility is warm, welcoming and unique. In our 9th year of operation, we have much to offer. Within our walls one will find the French Immersion Program, The Academy Program and a specialized program for high functioning autism students. We also are a home school inclusion model for our children requiring resource support.
Situated near the banks of Sligo Creek, the creek frequently is an extension of our classroom, supporting our outstanding science program. We are one of the few elementary schools with a fully operational science laboratory. We are performers as well as scientists. This year we have been selected to participate in the Create Your Own Opera Program, sponsored by the Kennedy Center. Our students are the beneficiaries of exemplary programs with exceptional teachers.
We have children representing at least thirty six different countries and speaking twenty eight different languages. At Sligo Creek, we are a microcosm of the world. We have an active PTA which supports our children, our teachers and our parents. We have a before and after school day-care program on site. Every semester a wide variety of after-school programs are available for students. We encourage parent volunteers as an integral part of our learning community. We value the relationship and collaborative efforts of our community.
We are proud to be a partnership school with Columbia Union College for the coming year, serving as a site for interns who are future teachers.We also will continue our partnership with Partners in Learning, IMPACT Silver Spring and the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. in an effort to pilot a program to serve students who could benefit from supplemental instruction.
This year we are challenged to "Walk the Road to Success" as we move forward in providing innovative and creative ways to teach so that all children learn. We remain committed to our children, our parents and our community. Great things are happening at Sligo Creek as we continue to walk the road to success this year.
