We are very excited to have been awarded an Arts in Education (AiE) grant from the Maryland State Arts Council for an artist-in-residence this year. Students have been hard at work on an animation video with artist Leila Cabib. Through their creation of their own animated video, students are learning about the history, concepts and techniques of two-dimensional drawn animation. They have worked with a 19th century optical toy called a zoetrope, created flip-books, collaborated on a class project, and videotaped all of their work. All of their work will be incorporated into a video that will be shown at school. A group of students have also been working on songs to accompany the video to make it a complete work of art!
