May & June Activities

After School Activities

BaseballThe staff at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities. After school activity hours run
from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. A brief description of the activities, sponsors, special requirements and fees (if necessary) for participants are listed in the After School Activity Handbook. In many cases, students need to stay after or sign up to stay after for an activity when it is scheduled. However, in some cases students must try out or receive a special invitation to join. Transportation is available for students. Generally, we offer after school activity buses Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

For information on Clubs, Intramurals and Athletics watch the After School Activities PowerPoint or read the After School Activity Handbook.

Eligibility for Intramural and Extracurricular Activities

RecycleParticipation in intramural and extracurricular activities requires the payment of an annual activity fee of $30.00. It is the student’s responsibility to remain eligible. Students must meet the eligibility standard by earning a 2.0 grade point average for the previous marking period with not more than one failing grade (including a carry-over from the 4th marking period to the fall). Students may petition the activity sponsor for reinstatement 2 weeks after the report card is received. The principal has the final decision on each petition.

After School Rules and Regulations

All students must follow the school rules when staying for after school activities. Students may not leave the building between the end of the school day and the beginning of the after school activity.

Students must report to the cafeteria if staying for an after school activity or the locker room if staying for athletics or intramurals. Attendance will be taken in the cafeteria and locker room before the students report to their activities. Sponsors will pick students up and walk them to their activities. All students who plan to take the activity bus home must have a bus pass.
