SUMMER ELO PROGRAM AT HIGHLAND ES
Highland will again be offering a summer program this year , however this program will be only for students entering Kindergarten—Grade 2. ELO is a free summer program where students will be able to improve their reading and mathematical skills. This summer adventure in learning is designed to reinforce what your child already knows and provide a head start on learning for the upcoming year. The program will be held from July 5– July 31 for four hours each weekday morning. Registration forms were sent home on April 20th .Enrollment will be limited and will be on a first come-first serve basis. In addition, there will be no after care program this year. Thank you.
GIRLS ON THE RUN
Girls on the Run® is a positive youth development program for girls in Grades 4-5 which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls’ development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors. Come and support Girls on the Run at the celebratory Fun Run 5K at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on May 20th at 9:00 a.m.
STUDENT ARTWORK
Four pieces of artwork from three Highland students have been chosen to go on tour and be displayed at different prestigious art exhibits throughout the state of Maryland for the 2012-2013 school year. We had more pieces selected than any other elementary school in the county. It is an honor and privilege to have even one piece chosen from a school, and we had four, which is twice as many as last year! Congratulations to the following students: Reyna Vasquez (Mrs. Radzinschi’s class), Hoa Tan (Mrs. Hudson’s class) and Lupita Bautista (Mrs. Beadling’s class).
INTERNATIONAL NIGHT Due to unforeseen circumstances, International Night has CANCELLED. Please see John Alcoba, Parent Community Coordinator, if you have any questions.
