Shout Outs:

  • Congratulations to our GMStrong peer leaders for their leadership this year.
  • Congratulations Ms. Pantella’s technology class on their competition at Carderock Naval Surface Warfare Center. Three of the teams successfully completed the entire mission. GMS was the only school to have this level of achievement.

8th Grade End of the Year Activities:

  • Hershey Park (June 11 from 9am - 6pm)
  • 8th Grade Promotion (June 12 from 6pm - 7pm @ GHS)
  • Families are welcome to attend promotion at Gaithersburg High School. However, for safety reasons, if seating capacity is reached in the auditorium some family members may need to watch the promotion on the televisions in the lobby.
  • Congratulation to all the Graduating 8th graders!  Help make it a memorable evening by purchasing a beautiful Red Rose!!!!  Red Roses are available for purchase for 8th grade graduation for  $5.00 (includes Rose and water bottle).  Pre order now.
  • Water and additional Roses will be sold at Gaithersburg High School before the ceremony.  
  • All funds raised will support The French Immersion Group.  
  • 8th Grade Dance (June 12 from 7:30 – 9:00 pm @ GMS)The cost of the dance is $8.00 for advanced ticket purchases. Tickets on sale the day of the dance are $10.00 We are seeking parents to chaperone and help set up. If you are interested in helping with the dance, please contact Ms. Bolmer.

June GMS Summer Program:

  • GMS is offering a two week summer school free of charge for students who completed the math course: Investigations into Mathematics (IM) during the 17-18 school year.
  • The two week program is free of charge from June 18-June 29 from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. Lunch will be provided. No transportation will be provided.
  • Students will have 3 hours of math instruction to prepare for Algebra in fall 2018 and 3 ½ hours of the So What Else Camp activities. The So What Else Camp programs focus on many activities including: sports, expressive arts-studio art, theater art, musical arts, cooking, acting, service learning and environmental education. Students will participate in an all-day field trip on June 26th.
  • Limit to 60 Students will be registered on a first come first serve basis. Permission forms should be returned to the main office.

July GMS Summer Program:

  • July 9 through July 27, 2018 from 8:00 – 3:00
  • 8:00 AM to 11: 30 AM Instruction
  • 12:00 to 3:00 PM Fun and hands-on indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Students will earn Student Service Learning hours.
  • Transportation will be provided for all students.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students.
  • Courses: Math 6, Reading 6, Investigations in Math (IM), Algebra, ESOL, METS
  • Limit to 20 students per class. Students will be registered on a first come first serve basis. Permission forms should be returned to the main office.
  • Scholarships are available to cover the cost for participation.

Current 8th graders-Trojan Experience:

Attention parents and guardians of 8th-grade students, Gaithersburg High School will be hosting a summer’s Trojan Experience.  The Trojan Experience is a one-week, fun-filled, adventure for incoming 9th-grade students that is provided to families at no cost! Please visit for more information.

Career Readiness Summer Camp:

Attention all middle school students! Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will sponsor career exploration camps for all rising sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students.  Students will explore skilled and professional careers and match their career goals and interest with career academies and high school programs.  Two camps will take place from 8:30am-12:30pm at the following locations:

Montgomery County Board of Elections Recruiting for “Future Vote” Program

School-age students, grades 6-12 are needed to participate in the “Future Vote” Initiative during the 2018 Gubernatorial Primary Election on Tuesday, June 26. MCPS allows current 5th graders (rising 6th graders) earn student service learning (SSL) hours the summer after completing Grade 5. Students and their guardians must attend mandatory training to participate in the Future Vote Program and, if applicable, students will receive Student Service Learning (SSL) credits.
