Here at Forest Oak we have a great facility and grounds (40 acres with woodlands, stream, etc...), wonderful students, a dedicated staff, and supportive parents --- all ingredients of an excellent school.
It is important to us that each one of our students succeed. The four key messages at Forest Oak are the following: "This is important!" "You can do it!", "We will not give up on you!" and "Effective effort leads to success".
It is crucial to deliver these key messages to achieve the goals stated in our School Vision Statement:
"We the staff, parents, students and community of Forest Oak are dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, nurturing environment that stimulates and challenges all individuals to realize their academic, social and emotional potential."
The mission: is to accelerate students' mastery of academics, specifically reading, language arts, and mathematics, and to close the achievement gap. The Learning Academy is a tutoring and mentoring program that enhances the academic performance and achievement of students in grades 1 through 12. On Saturday mornings, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., certified teachers and volunteer tutors work with students on core subjects and teach successful learning/studying strategies.
FOMS Honors Veteran's Day On November 11, FOMS held a Veteran's Day ceremony to honor US Veterans. Guest speaker, Sergeant Major, Rob Bercaw of the US Army, (and Forest Oak Parent) spoke of service, honor and respect, and appreciation of what we have. Principal John Burley spoke of appreciation of our veterans and ask students to "Thank a veteran who you know and say thanks when you see someone in uniform.'
The Internet is a fabulous resource for education, entertainment, and more. But the Internet is not regulated or controlled by any one entity. So parents and schools have a responsibility to educate children about its safe and appropriate use.
It is imperative that parents and students report unsafe incidents to law enforcement so that offenders can be apprehended and prosecuted.
When planning your volunteer hours this, be sure to verify that the organization with which you are are volunteering is pre-approved, on the MCPS Web site.
