May News
May is such a busy month. We enjoyed seeing all of you at our Student Showcase Night. The kindergartners were so excited to share all they learned this year. Thank you for taking the time to share in their delight.
We are currently in the process of completing each child’s final reading assessments. The children have been working hard to become more fluent readers, to improve their reading comprehension skills, and to add more details to their writing. We will soon begin our final Math Unit Assessments. Keep practicing money skills with your child. We are currently working on addition and subtraction fact families through 5. For example 0+5=5, 5+0=5, 1+4=5, 4+1=5, 2+3=5, 3+2=5, etc. 5-0=5, 5-1=4, 5-4=1, 5-2=3, 5-3=2,etc.
We are also working on solving addition and subtraction word problems and adding and subtracting within 10, e.g. by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
We look forward to our field trip to Glen Echo Park on Wednesday, May 30th. The children will see the puppet show Pinocchio, ride the carousel, and have a picnic lunch. Wear sneakers for lots of walking. Chaperones please arrive by 9:10 and sign in at the office. Remember to pack your child’s lunch in a bag.
Kindergarten Field Day will be on Thursday, May 31st in the morning from 9:30 - 11:30. Our color is Sapphire Blue. Remember to wear the Flower Hill shirt you purchased or another blue shirt. Most activities will be outside. This is an opportunity for the children to use and show all of the skills they have worked on this year in P.E. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather and be sure to WEAR SNEAKERS!!

Mission Statement
We, the kindergarten children, will work hard to become the best readers, writers and math thinkers that we can be.
We will learn by listening and participating during whole group and small group lessons. We will take charge of our learning during literacy and math centers, writer’s workshop, and in doing our homework.
We will show respect by following our school rules, helping each other and doing our best each and every day!
