February News
The students have been working hard to complete our winter reading and math assessments. We are so proud of all the progress the students have made in Reading and Math. They deserve praise for a job well done! Report cards and data books will come home during the week of February 6th. Please sign and return the report card envelope so we know you have seen it. Your child’s report card/comments and any other papers are your copies to keep at home. Your child’s Data Books also need to be returned the next school day with ALL of the papers kept inside. Please DO NOT remove any pages from the Data Book.
In Science, we have been learning about mealworms. They are the larva that hatches from a darkling beetle’s egg. We will watch our mealworms grow and change. We will write our observations in our Science Journal.
Valentine’s Day is coming! A list of the names of the students in your child’s class will be sent home as well as a permission slip. See how many names your child can read. Also, having your child sign his/her name and write the names of their classmates on their Valentines provides a purposeful opportunity for your child to practice his/her handwriting skills. Encourage your child to do his/her own writing. Please return your permission slip as soon as possible so we can plan and purchase items for the party.
Remember to keep reading each day with your child and remember to complete the reading log each day. The Pizza Hut Book-It program continues through March. Students who complete their logs will be invited to a celebration with Mrs. Miller, our reading teacher, at the end of the school year!
We are sending many warm wishes to Ms. Buckingham as she begins her retirement. The kindergarten students and teachers will certainly miss her!

Mission Statement
We, the kindergarten children, will work hard to become the best readers, writers and math thinkers that we can be.
We will learn by listening and participating during whole group and small group lessons. We will take charge of our learning during literacy and math centers, writer’s workshop, and in doing our homework.
We will show respect by following our school rules, helping each other and doing our best each and every day!
