Math

FOURTH GRADE MATH:
Fourth grade math students are continuing Unit 4 throughout the month of April. Unit 4 asks students to solve elapsed time problems in years and months, hours and minutes, and minutes and seconds. They will multiply 2 X 3 digit numbers and long division. The Unit 4 assessment will take place around April 23-24. Please encourage your child to carefully complete homework every night to help him/her master math concepts.

FIFTH GRADE MATH:
Fifth grade math students are well on their way towards becoming measurement experts! Students have found the area and perimeter of irregular shapes, the volume of prisms and cubes, and have converted units of measurement (feet to inches, gallons to cups, and meters to kilometers). During April, we will solve elapsed time and money word problems, finding the costs of something that occurs on a time period.

We are continuing to encourage every student to practice multiplication and division facts every night. Proficiency in basic skills will ensure success in math! To create your own flashcards or practice flashcards online go to: www.aplusmath.com or www.mathfactcafe.com

Reading & Writing

Students are excited to begin their exploration of the genre Mysteries during the month of April. We will act as sleuths and use our investigative skills to search for clues, suspects, and catch the villain. In addition to fictional mysteries, we will explore the real life mysteries that exist in our world. Students will draw conclusions about Big Foot and the Lockness Monster…do they really exist?
Please continue to encourage your child to read for at least thirty minutes every night. The public library is a wonderful resource to borrow some great books for your child to read!
