The administration of medication to pupils while they are in school is to
be administered by the health technician only.
Treatment schedules which allow doses to be given at times other than
during school hours are preferred and encouraged. When, however, in the opinion of the prescribing
physician, it is necessary that medication be given during school hours, please
obtain the necessary form "Administration of Medication to a Pupil"
from the principal's secretary or the health room technician. There may be times when you visit the doctor
on the weekend and this form is not available to you, in that case, please have
the doctor write on his/her prescription form the child's name, name of
medication, dosage, time medication is to be administered and the beginning and
ending dates medicine is to be given.
This is acceptable on a short term basis. Parents/guardians should also write a note
authorizing the school to administer the medication to their child. Please note that medication must be carried
to and from school by the parent/guardian.
Do not send medication with your child.
Also, when dividing medicine up so that some can be taken to school and
some kept home for use, please be sure that the medicine the school is given is
in the prescription--labeled container.
Any questions regarding this, please feel free to call the health room
technician at 301-840-7161.
