The music program at CCES is aligned with National and State Music Education Standards. The study of music assists in the acquisition of 21st
Century Skills. The cooperative learning setting of music
ensembles allows students to develop both individually and as members
of a larger community. The creativity inherent in the creation or
interpretation of a musical selection fosters creative thinking and
problem solving strategies that permeate other facets of life. We
encourage and celebrate the personal expression within every child.
As part of the BSO on the Go (Montgomery County) residency program, fifth graders at Chevy Chase Elementary composed their own original variations on the theme of "Simple Gifts." In April 2010, members of the BSO’s double reed trio (Michael Lisicky, Sandra Gerster, and Fei Xie) along with the fifth graders presented the world premiere of this work at the school.
