The Center Program for the Highly Gifted

The Centers for the Highly Gifted provide 4th and 5th grade students with needs that cannot be easily met through local school GT programming.  The Centers provide a full-time instructional program beyond the MCPS Program of Studies.  The program content is based on the goals and objectives of the MCPS curriculum and is accelerated, compacted, and enriched to meet the needs of highly able students.  The program establishes an instructional atmosphere that promotes the thinking skills and instructional strategies that encourage risk taking and creative expression to help highly able students to realize and meet their full potential.

The Highly Gifted Center at CCES is unique in the way that it supports the home school program.  The Center teachers work as a team with the grade level teachers by planning lessons, activities, and field trips.  Center students are integrated with the home school students for specials, recess, and lunch.  In order to meet the needs of all learners at Chevy Chase, there is some flexibility in scheduling.  Students outside of the program may be placed in Center classes and vice-versa, dependent upon need.  Chevy Chase Elementary is truly a cohesive community of learners.
