Art
The art program at CCES is aligned with National and State Art Education Standards.
The effects of the art program do not end in the classroom, but extend into the personal and academic development of each student. Students also develop the ability to concentrate, consider various points of view, problem solve, think creatively, work as a member of a team, and persevere in a task.
"When a child studies the arts, significant elements of his or her education find focus and expression." Excerpt: Growing Up Complete

Limor Dekel, Art Teacher
I was born in and grew up in Israel. In Israel, I studied art at Bezalel Academy of Art, Israel’s premier art school. When I moved to the United States in my early twenties, I supported myself working as a ceramic artist and then as a graphic artist. Along the way, I earned a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design from the University of Maryland and also gained experience in other media – drawing, painting, sculpting, paper mache, graphic arts and digital photography.
In my mid-thirties, I put my career on hold to start and raise a family. Once my children were in school, I decided that in addition to making art, I would like to teach art. I went back to school and earned a K-12 art-teaching certificate from Towson University. A couple of years ago I completed the masters-equivalent program and earned an advanced teaching certificate from MSDE.
I believe that art is not just meant to be hung in a museum; rather it is and should be an essential part of everyday life. Art is thinking you can see. I challenge my students to produce thoughtful and meaningful art, as well as to develop and hone their skills. In my lessons I use the latest technology available to me as well as the old-fashion “primitive” techniques. I believe that no matter what tool you use, the end product should express your thinking clearly.
I have been teaching art at MCPS since 2002. In my first year teaching I taught art at a middle school and I did my student teaching at Magruder HS. I have taught art in elementary school for eight years before I joined the staff at CCES.
