Spring Music Festival Trip

Every year, the music teachers plan a trip that includes a chance for our students to participate in a music festival; and the music office is filled with trophies from past performances.  Students pay their own way for the trip; however, they are given opportunities to earn monetary credit toward the trip fee by participating in the fundraisers described below.  Students can also ask their music teacher about receiving a partial scholarship (also funded by the fundraisers!).  Adult chaperones are needed for the trip. This year's trip will be to Boston, on March 29 - April 1.  Download the required trip forms and MCPS Permission Slip.

Fall Donation Request Campaign

Your financial support is needed more than ever to cover the many expenses of our high-quality music program, including the purchase of music, new instruments, instrument repairs and maintenance, sectional coaches and the Music Festival Trip scholarship fund.  Letters will be sent out in early fall to the families of every music student requesting tax-deductible donations.  Please respond generously. Download the Music Department Donation Request Flyer here.

"A Little Night Music" with our Music Teachers

This is a special evening of music, food and fun with our wonderful music teachers to raise funds towards purchasing much needed instrumental and choral items that will enhance our music programs.

Citrus Fruit Sale

Music Ensemble students sell and then deliver delicious citrus fruit (including juicy oranges and tangerines, delicious apples, ripe grapefruit and great gift boxes) to family and friends.  Customers may also choose to have fruit delivered directly to an address for an additional charge.  Gift boxes of fruit make great holiday gifts for out-of-town family and friends.  Students who sell fruit earn 40% of the sales profit in credit toward the Spring Festival Music Trip.  Sales packets will be distributed in the music ensemble classes and order forms will be available for downloading from the music department website when the sale begins in the fall.
Volunteers are needed to help with the following tasks:
Fruit pick-up reminder phone calls made from your home (about 1 hour) a day or two before the customer pick-up day.
Fruit sorting (Some heavy lifting involved) on the fruit delivery day.
On the customer fruit pick-up day at the B-CC loading dock, music student volunteers earn service hours by helping load fruit into cars.  Parents, please volunteer for a shift to supervise the students.

Concert Concessions

The music department sells food and drinks donated by the families of music students at the Winter and Spring concerts.  There are two nights of concerts in order to accommodate all the music ensembles at B-CC.  About a week before each concert, the concessions supervisor sends out requests on BCCnet and the Music Listserve for food donations and concessions volunteers for half-hour shifts.  Keep a look-out for these e-mails!

Concert Supervision of Band Room

The band room remains unlocked on concert evenings to allow students to retrieve and return instruments and other belongings.  The volunteer coordinator sends out requests on BCCnet and the Music Listserve for volunteers to sit in the rooms in half-hour shifts to guard against theft of instruments and belongings.  Please consider volunteering for one or more of this year’s four concerts.

Cabaret Night, Sat., February 11, 2012 (Snow Date: TBD)

This is the music department’s biggest fundraiser and also one of the most fun events to attend.  The B-CC cafeteria is transformed into a restaurant that is decorated based on the location of the Spring Music Festival trip.  The event goers (adults only, please) are served an Italian spaghetti dinner served by music students and entertained by the music students.  Bring your dancing shoes for the end of the evening when Marshall White and Friends are sure to get you out of your seat.  We hope that you can help support this event in some way.  Place an ad in our keepsake Cabaret Night Program.  Download the Cabaret Registration Flyer and Floorplan.
