About The Music Department

The B-CC Music Department has earned 2 Grammy Foundation awards and offers eight instrumental ensembles, three choral ensembles, guitar, piano, and IB music classes. Extracurricular activities include the pep band, drum line/percussion ensemble, pit orchestra and small quartets and combos. Nearly 50 students are enrolled in a music class each semester.

The Wall Street Journal article, "A Musical Fix for American Schools" provides research that shows music training boosts IQ, focus, and persistence.

   CONCERT ATTIRE

A reminder that all musicians must wear the concert attire. Females wear the required black Lillian gown and males may wear any comparable uniform to the poly-notch tuxedo. The Advanced and Concert Choirs also need robes. The Music Boosters Community Closet still has some garments available. If you missed the sale and still need the required attire, contact BCCCommunityCloset@gmail.com to make an appointment for your child to try on outfits.

Cabaret

 
Please join us for the B-CC Music Department's winter fundraiser, Cabaret, on Friday, February 9, 7:00pm-9:30pm in the B-CC Cafeteria. The event will feature music by several student ensemblesa silent auction, heavy hors d'oeurves by Georgian Feast, and desserts.
 
Enjoy performances by the Jazz Ensemble, Advanced Choir, Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Advanced Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra. 
 
Purchase tickets at www.Pay4SchoolStuff.com, select "Music Boosters Cabaret." Tickets are $35 until 12/31, $40 until 1/31, and $50 after 1/31 and at the door (student tickets are $20).

Spring Music Trip to New Orleans

All instrumental and choral ensemble students are encouraged to participate in the Spring Music Trip to New Orleans to perform at an international music festival, Wednesday, April 4 - Monday, April 9, 2018.

 

The trip includes chartered bus transportation, hotel (four students per room), festival performances, Friday night Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra—Vivaldi Four Seasons and Shostakovich Symphony #10, and the Saturday Awards Banquet.

 
View the trip packet that includes general information, preliminary itinerary, packing list, and three forms that must be completed and returned with $701 payment in full to reserve a place on the trip by January 18, 2018. Please review the instructions, then complete the forms online to ensure accuracy. 
 
 
Completing 3 Forms

To complete the other two forms, SAVE these documents to your computer to a location that you will remember--like the desktop. Then open the document from the location where you saved it--do not launch it from this attachment without saving it.
 
You should be able to use Typewriter Tools (part of Adobe Reader version 8 or higher) to complete the forms. Then print the forms.

Still Accepting Community Closet Donations

The Community Closet will take your concert attire to help outfit the incoming freshmen class and others who have outgrown their current uniform. Please drop your concert dresses and tuxedos (be sure to include bow ties and cummerbunds) in the donation box located in the B-CC Front Office. For tax donation letters and other information about Community Closet, contact BCCCommunityCloset@gmail.com.

The Jazz Ensemble had a busy first week of November playing at the National Press Club for the Institute for Patient and Family Centered Care 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala and the Western Grove Urban Park park opening celebration.

The Jazz Ensemble performed October 1 at the Rollingwood Citizens Association picnic and received rave reviews. "The Jazz Combo was fantastic! They are all terrific musicians, emanating professionalism and poise. When we decided to move them outdoors, they took the change in stride. They were a credit to themselves and to B-CC."
