Scholarships

Students are encouraged to check out the following scholarship opportunities available through their high school College and Career Centers. Additional scholarships and awards can be searched through several comprehensive online databases as well as through the Financial Aid Offices of the colleges and universities under consideration.

Air Force Officers' Spouses' Club Scholarship 3/1/18 Seniors who are military dependents of active duty, reserve, guard, retired, MIA/POW, deceased officer or enlisted members of the USAF with a 3.25 GPA or better.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Ira Dorsey Scholarship 4/21/18 Male seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better planning to attend a 4-year college.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Paul Robeson Scholarship    African American male seniors residing in Montgomery County, MD with financial need. Academic scholarship awarded to 3.5 GPA or better; general scholarship awarded to 3.0 GPA or better.
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Ivy Vine Charities Scholarship 4/20/18 Seniors with a 2.7 GPA or better who have demonstrated participation in school activities and community. Must be accepted to 4-year college or university or Montgomery College. Several scholarship opportunities available. 
American Chemical Society Scholars 3/1/18 Underrepresented minority seniors with financial need who are planning to pursue a degree in the chemical sciences; minimum 3.0 GPA in chemistry or science.
Americanism Essay Contest 12/1/18 Essay contest for grades 7-12 to promote the spirit of Americanism and patriotism. Essay must be submitted through an FRA member or branch.
A. R. Tilghman Memorial Scholarship  2/25/18 Seniors with a desire in the education and care of the mentally disabled. Scholarship also available to aid the career development of mentally disabled students. Application information.
Ashley Tamburri Scholarship 3/31/18 Seniors who are cancer survivors or are living with cancer diagnosis.
Association of Vietnamese Americans Scholarship 5/29/18 Vietnamese American seniors in MD with financial need; recipient required to participate in at least one AVA community activity or outreach event.  
B. Davis Scholarship 5/22/18 Juniors and seniors.
Bernie Scholarship Awards Program 3/20/18 Seniors with a 2.0 GPA or better and a resident of Montgomery County, MD receiving housing assistance from the agencies partnered with the program. Must have demonstrated community service. Online applications only.
BigSun Scholarship 6/19/18 Senior athletes engaged in any sport.
Blacks in Government DOL Scholarship 3/15/18 Seniors with a 2.0 GPA or better.
Bridges Program Scholarship 9/17/18 Students who successfully complete the program are accepted for fall admission at Miami University's Oxford, OH campus.
Carson Scholars Fund 1/8/18 Students in grades 4-11 with a 3.75 GPA or better with demonstrated involvement in community service. Students must be nominated by school to compete for this scholarship.
College JumpStart Scholarship 4/15/18 and 10/17/18 Students in grades 10-12 who are planning to attend an accredited 2 or 4-year college/university, or a vocational/trade school in the U.S.
Create Real Impact Scholarship 3/22/18 Full-time students ages 14-22.
Diverse Minds Writing Challenge 3/16/18 Students in grades 9-12. Must write and illustrate a children's book that tells a story of tolerance, diversity or inclusion. In addition to the scholarship award, the winning book will be published.
Dorothy Marvil Scholarship 3/19/18 Must be an ESFCU member with a 2.75 GPA or better. 
Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarship 3/1/18 Seniors with a 2.0 GPA or better; resident of MD or D.C. for at least one year prior to application; have demonstrated financial need; and interested in a career in Business or Education
Ellen P. Imbrigato Scholarship 5/15 and 11/30 MCPS seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better planning on attending Norfolk State University.
Elizabeth Ann First Memorial Scholarship 4/20/18 Seniors who live a tobacco-free lifestyle and have demonstrated a commitment to anti-smoking advocacy.
Elks Career and Technologyl Scholarship 3/15/18 Students planning to pursue a two year degree, certificate, or diploma.
Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship 11/27/17 Awards based on academics, leadership and financial need.
Esperanza Education Fund Scholarship 4/1/18 Seniors born outside of the U.S. or have two parents born outside the U.S. and enrolling full-time at an accredited college or university.
Fort Meade Officers' Spouses' Club Scholarships  3/15/18 Four scholarships available for seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better planning on attending an accredited college or university full-time; must have a connection to Fort Meade by residence or parent/guardian military affiliation. Application information.
Frederick Douglass Memorial & Historical Assoc. Essay Scholarship Contest 3/30/18 Essay contest open to seniors attending public schools in MD, D.C., or VA (restrictions apply). Must be enrolled in college in the fall of 2018 or spring 2019. Application information.
Girls on the Run Core Values College Scholarship 3/31/18 Students who have participated in GOTR Montgomery County for 2 or more years with a 3.0 GPA or better.
Greater Washington Urban League Scholarships  1/26/18 Seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better with financial need and near completion of community service hours.  
Greater Washington Urban League Monumental Sports Scholarship  1/26/18 Seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better with financial need and near completion of community service hours. 
HBCU Carolyn M. Harris Scholarship 1/19/18 Seniors who are members of a musical ensemble with a 2.5 GPA or better and planning to pursue a degree in applied music, music education or music performance at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Application information.
HBCU Evelyn Hider Scholarship 1/19/18 Seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better with financial need and planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) college or university. Application information.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund 3/30/18 Seniors of Hispanic Heritage with a 3.0 GPA or better applying to a not-for-profit 4-year university.
Junior Achievement Essay Competition 2/23/18 Essay contest for students in grades 9-12. 
Kids' Chance of Maryland N/A Seniors whose parent or guardian suffered a catastrophic injury or occupational disease while working for a Maryland employer.
Lawrence Hamm, Sr. Scholarship 3/15/18 MCPS seniors with financial need who have demonstrated volunteer or community service involvement.
LEAPP-The League of Educators for Asian American Progress Scholarship 1/31/18 MCPS seniors who plan to major in education and are student members of an Asian American club, or who have earned student service learning hours supporting Asian American organizations or programs.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Award 6/1/18 Awarded to minority students who are interested in a career in the criminal justice field. Applicants must be able to demonstrate commitment to the principles of Dr. King. Must show proof of financial need and acceptance to a four-year college.
Maryland Hispanic Achievement Scholarship 5/30/18 Seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better with financial need, planning to attend a MD college or university, and have performed community and/or volunteer service within the past year.
Maryland JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship 1/6/18 Seniors graduating from a MD high school.
Maryland State Financial Assistance Programs Varies Numerous grants and scholarships based on financial need, chosen career/occupation, or unique population.
MCPS Educational Foundation Scholarship 3/19/18 MCPS seniors with a 2.0 GPA pr better with financial need. 
MELLFIN Scholarship 3/9/18 Current or former ESOL seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better.
Montgomery County Alumnae Chapter Scholarships 3/23/18 Three scholarships for seniors with financial need, reside in Montgomery County, MD, and are focused on the improvement of their community.
Montgomery College Grants and Scholarships Varies Numerous grants and scholarships based on financial need, chosen career/occupation, academic achievement, or children of MC graduates.
National Co-op Scholarship 2/15/18 Seniors with a 3.5 GPA or better and an interest in a work integrated education at one of the World Association for Cooperative Education (WACE) Partner Institutions.
National Guard Bureau Officers' Spouses' Club Scholarship 4/1/18 Seniors whose parent/guardian is either an officer, enlisted or civilian (active, retired or deceased) working in or for the National Guard Bureau in the VA/MD/DC area.
National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc., Theresa C. Suggs-Roy T. Lyons Scholarship 4/28/18 Seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better with demonstrated community service, and proof of acceptance to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). 
National Press Club Diversity Scholarship 3/1/18 Underrepresented minority seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better planning a career in journalism.
National Press Club Richard G. Zimmerman Journalism Scholarship 3/1/18 Seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better planning a career in journalism.
Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars 2/4/18 Seniors with a 3.5 GPA or better; 1150 SAT score or 27 ACT score; resident of MD; pursuing a degree in an approved engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics program.
PEPCO Guiding Light Leadership Program 1/17/18 Available to three graduating seniors. In addition to the award, recipients attend a 3-day program that includes mentoring and leadership instruction by PEPCO executives. Program information and application.
Phi Beta Kappa High School Awards Program 4/30/18 Seniors with a 3.5 GPA or better and an interest in community service.
Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter Scholarship 3/23/18 Seniors residing in Montgomery County and graduating from a western MoCo school. Awards based on GPA and financial need. Can not be a son/daughter of a PVAC member. Application for 2.5-3.0 GPA / Application for 3.0 and above GPA
Princeton Prize in Race Relations 1/31/18 Students in grades 9-12 who are actively involved in volunteer efforts that positively impacted race relations in the community.

RMHC/HACER Scholarship 2/5/18 Seniors with a 2.7 GPA or better with at least one parent of Hispanic heritage.
Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship  3/15/18 MCPS juniors or seniors who have lost a parent/guardian to breast or ovarian cancer; 3.0 GPA or better; financial need; and involved as a leader in a school, community or athletic activity. Society of Women Engineers Scholarship 5/1/18 Senior females admitted to an accredited program for careers in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science.
Stars Scholarship Foundation 4/26/18 African American students in grades 9-11 with a 3.1 GPA or better.  Awards are based on GPA, significant GPA improvement, course difficulty, essay quality, significant accomplishments, recommendations and an interview. Visit CCIC for more information.

Susana de Moya Foundation 4/3/17 Students ages 12-18 attending school in MD or D.C. area with at least one parent born in the Dominican Republic.
The Difference Maker Scholarship 3/24/18 Seniors graduating in Montgomery County, MD.
The Gates Scholarship 9/15/17 Minority seniors with a 3.3 GPA or better with financial need pursuing a 4-year degree program at a not-for-profit college or university.
The Maryland Emergency Management Association Scholarship 4/2/18 Seniors accepted to a two or four-year college or university with financial need pursuing a career in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Disaster Relief, Public Services, Meteorology, Risk Management or related field. UNCF/Koch Scholars 5/14/18 African American seniors with a 2.7 GPA or better and an interest in entrepreneurship, innovation, and the economic way of thinking.
UNCF/STEM Scholars 1/16/18 African American seniors with financial need and a 3.0 GPA or better, and have demonstrated academic achievements in math and science, including pre-calculus and interest in a STEM major.
United States Senate Youth Program 9/21/18 Juniors and seniors interested in pursuing careers in public service; merit-based and highly competitive; must be actively serving as a leader in an elected or appointed capacity in student government or an approved civic or educational organization during the entire school year. University of Maryland Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship 12/12/18 Seniors with a strong background in dance technique or choreography; application to UM as a dance major required before submission of application; audition required.
University of Rochester High School Awards 6/15/18 Juniors who are accepted to and attend the University following graduation. Four awards with different criteria based on outstanding achievements in leadership and academics. Students must be nominated by school.
USDA/1890 National Scholars 1/31/18 Seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better; accepted for admission to an 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant University; demonstrated leadership and community service; intending to study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or related fields.
Veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts Scholarship 3/1/18 Seniors whose parents are veterans, reserve, or active duty member of the Armed Forces and served at least 60 days in the Afghanistan or Iraq conflicts.
VFW Voice of Democracy 10/31/18 Students in grades 9-12 submit a written and recorded democratic and patriotic themed essay.
