 Dear Strathmore Parents,

As a part of the MCPS music curriculum, we are learning how to play the soprano recorder in music class using a method called Recorder Karate.  If your child does not already own a recorder, he or she can purchase one through the school.  I will be ordering a recorder that comes with a storage case, cleaning rod, and fingering chart. The price is $2.50.  I would also encourage you to get a pocket folder for your student to keep all music in to help with practicing.

Please return the form sent home from school to Mrs. Russell with CASH or CHECK by no later than Tuesday, February 17th so that the recorder shipment can be made that afternoon.  Checks should be made payable to Strathmore Elementary School.  There will be a $25 fee for any checks that are returned.  I will only be ordering recorders I receive monies for and no extras.  The recorders usually arrive two weeks after an order has been placed.

Should you prefer to purchase your recorder elsewhere, I have provided some links below for your review.

Instrumental Music News!

I have decided to participate in the National Board for Professional Teaching Certification process for Instrumental Music.  I will be participating in the process for the next 3 years.  This process be examining my teaching practices.  I would like to have your permission to video record your child so that my teaching practices can be reviewed in a real life classroom.  This video will not be posted on social media in any way.  It will only be used for the National Board for Professional Teaching review process.   I will be given out the permission slips in my Instrumental Music classes/rehearsals.  But I will need you to complete them and return them with your child within 2 weeks of receiving them.

Thank you so much,

MeLinda Ford
