The following are messages from your PTSA:

Seneca Valley cluster community,

Superintendent Smith released his recommendation on Oct 16, for new boundaries for our high school, schools in the NW cluster and the Clarksburg cluster.  You can read the report directly and look at maps here

This message contains a summary of the Superintendent's choice and ways that you can support our community.  Following the summary, please read information about emailing the Board of Education as well as attending the public comment testimony night on November 13 at the Carver Building in Rockville (next to the MC campus).

In summary,

Seneca Valley

All current cluster schools remain the same.

We will welcome new students from the Gibbs ES area, Cabin Branch area, and small portions from Clarksburg ES, Clopper Mill ES, Matsunaga ES, and Germantown ES.

The Clopper Mill ES island (The Point apartments across the street on Wisteria) will now attend SVHS.

The Spark Matsunaga ES island (The Liberty Hills apartments across from Lotte Plaza) will now attend MLK MS and SVHS.

The Germantown ES island (the Fountain Hills Local Park area behind GES) will now attend SVHS.

Great Seneca Creek ES will solely attend Kingsview MS (and not split to Roberto Clemente MS) and remain at NWHS.

The Gibbs ES area (mostly the Milestone neighborhood) will now attend SVHS.

The Cabin Branch area (next to the Outlets) will now attend SVHS.

A portion of Clarksburg ES (South of Old Baltimore Rd on the west side of Rt 270) will now attend SVHS.

All three of these areas will change from Rocky Hill MS to Neelsville MS and from CHS to SVHS.

(In addition, Fox Chapel and Daly will change from Neelsville MS to Rocky Hill MS and remain attending CHS.)

SVHS PTSA strongly advocated for an option that helps balance demographics and supports diversity (as much as possible in all three clusters).   The Board of Education has the final decision which will be announced November 26th.  They can accept Dr. Smith's recommendation, choose another one, or create a new one.

What are the next steps?

There are several ways to support the above choice by Dr. Smith.  The BOE needs to hear from the Seneca Valley community and not be swayed!  If the BOE doesn't hear from you, they think you do not care or are not interested.

1) Email to send a note to the Board of Education in support of the Superintendent's choice.  This does not have to be anything lengthy or complicated.  A short email supporting the option and valuing diversity over geography is appreciated.

2) Come to the public hearing to show the BOE in person that you support the Superintendent's choice.  If the room is filled with parents and students wearing green and gold, the BOE will feel confident approving the option.  It is likely that one of the other clusters in the study will arrive en mass and try to convince the BOE to go in a different direction - let's pack the house with Screaming Eagles!  You will be an audience member in school colors.

3) Come to the public hearing to testify to speak directly to the BOE to give your public comment.  We will have a few slots for the community to speak for 5 minutes about the option.  There is help available to craft your speech.  You will sign up via the BOE webpage at 9am on October 29th here

BOE public hearing will be held November 13 at 6pm

CESC - Carver Educational Service Center  (near MC Rockville)

850 Hungerford Drive

Thank you for all the community support!

Testifying not for you?  Please COME IN PERSON on November 13 at 6:00pm to be a part of the audience.  If the Board of Ed does not see green and gold then they think that we don't have any interest in the decision.
