Physical Education & Health Curricular Information
Each student is required to participate in the physical education program. The goal of physical education is to help students become responsible citizens who are both physically educated and health literate. Each student will set and achieve personally challenging goals in physical activity, apply higher order thinking skills to human movement, and design personal movement and fitness plans. Students will be able to display the skills and practices of a physically active lifestyle, knowing the benefits of their choices to be involved in physical activity. They will be physically fit and have a mindset that values physical activity and its benefits in sustaining healthy lifestyles.
All students are asked to bring in the following materials for Physical Education classes:
- Students are encouraged to bring in a change of clothes so that they safely participate in physical education class.
- Athletic Sneakers are needed in order to participate safely in all physical education activities.
- Students are reminded that aerosol deodorant, perfumes, body sprays are not permitted in the locker rooms.
Students also participate in a nine-week health education program.
The 6th grade curriculum includes: Mental and Emotional Health, Substance Use and Abuse Prevention, Safety and Violence Prevention, Health Eating, Building Healthy Relationships and Health Skills Overview . 6th grade students do not have a Family Life and Human Sexuality unit.
The 7th grade curriculum includes: Mental and Emotional Health, Substance Use and Abuse Prevention, Family Life and Human Sexuality and Disease Prevention and Control. The 8th grade curriculum includes: Mental and Emotional Health, Substance Use and Abuse Prevention, Safety and Violence Prevention, Healthy Eating and Family Life and Human Sexuality. 7th and 8th graders will have a Family Life Preview Night on September 7 in conjunction with the Back to School Night to preview the Family Life and Human Sexuality Unit. The 7th and 8th grade students can opt out of the Family Life and Human Sexuality unit by returning the opt out form that will be given out on the first week of school and available at the Preview Night.
