Murals
There are two murals which can be found on the walls near the North and South entrances to the building. One is entitled: “Stream,” Mural in Glazed Earthenware by Carry Esser, Artist 1989. This mural represents Paint Branch creek in mid-October. Autumn leaves have falled from trees. They flutter down the banks of the stream and into the glistening blue water. The other is entitled: “Cycle of Seasons,” Earthenware Mural with Colored Clays and Glazes by Carry Esser, Artist 1988. As the seasons progress, Mother Nature paints the Maryland countryside with her palette of seasonal color. The name “Paint Branch” traces its roots to indigenous Indian folklore, and refers to the natural beauty of this area. This mural is a pinwheel pattern of leaves. Each leaf is painted to represent a color with the cycle of seasons. The nautical blue and yellow of Summer circle from the left through the muted rust, gold, and grays of Fall and Winter, into Spring pastels of green and pink. The mural is bordered in autumn leaves which are also the school spirit colors of maroon and gold. New owner must carry the cost of removal, transport, and installation at new location.
Bricks
A small brass plate inscribed with origin and dates of the school can be added to the brick by the purchaser. These bricks make nice memorabilia for alumni, parents and staff. They would be great as an addition to your existing garden or simply as a way to honor the era of the first Paint Branch High School building.
Departmental Awards Brass Plaques
The departmental award brass plaques located outside the auditorium are also available for sale. The cost is $3.00/ plaques. The money raised by the sale of these plaques will be used to create Paint Branch’s new Hall of Fame for the Departmental Awards in the new building where all of the names will be engraved and preserved with spaces added to accommodate future Panthers.
The idea of selling the departmental award plaques came from a PB alumnus. Since the plaques were beginning to fall off the wall, and were in good shape, the suggestion was to sell them to the alumni. Several alumni have purchased them as well as a brick to mount their brass plaques on as a keepsake of Paint Branch. You can also order bricks at this site. Please click on the link below.
