SSL Opportunity: Summer of Service to Seniors Meal Pack Challenge

Summer of Service to Seniors Meal Pack Challenge

On Sunday, September 10, and Monday, September 11, AARP Foundation will host our annual Meal Pack Challenge on the National Mall. This year’s event is the culmination of our inaugural Summer of Service to Seniors℠ involving meal packing events in four cities across the country. To date we have packed more than 1.5 million meals with the help of more than 4,000 volunteers. And we hope to match those numbers here in DC for a grand total of more than 3 million meals packed. We need your support.

In the DC metropolitan region, too many hardworking older adults are in need. Through no fault of their own they struggle daily to secure a steady income, safe and affordable housing, nutritious food, and sustained social bonds.

On behalf of AARP Foundation, the charitable affiliate of AARP, I invite your students and staff to join us in this special effort. The Meal Pack Challenge is an excellent team-building opportunity, as well as a chance to come together to give back to the community and help struggling older neighbors. We are asking volunteers to give us about two hours, during which time each volunteer can help pack 166 meals!
