About GreenKids
What is GreenKids
The Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) is pleased to sponsor GreenKids, a grant-funded outreach program designed to assist Montgomery County Public Schools. GreenKids and MCPS have signed a Memo of Understanding that supports expansion of the program into schools throughout the county.
GreenKids offers Montgomery County students, teachers and administrators resources, funds, and field trips to foster environmental stewardship while meeting established MCPS curriculum goals. GreenKids is a two-year program.
Each year, GreenKids schools receive:
- 100 hours of dedicated naturalist time to teach environmental lessons and help schools plan and integrate environmental education activities into the curriculum
- Green school teacher training session for the entire staff
- Support for your SERT program
- $400 in lead teacher stipends
- $100 field trip subsidy to the ANS Woodend Sanctuary
- $300 school project fund for infrastructure projects such as habitat gardens
- Assistance in attracting community partners to support environmental activities
- Assistance in applying for Maryland Green School Certification from the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education
- Support and resources as a member of the GreenKids Network upon completion of the two-year program
