Reading Curriculum Information

Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a language arts program for Grades PreK–5 that combines a multi-sensory approach to phonics with rich texts carefully sequenced to build content knowledge—so that students learn to read and read to learn at the same time.

Built on the Science of Reading research, CKLA sequences deep content knowledge with research-based foundational skills. Every day in Grades PreK–2, students complete one full lesson that builds foundational reading skills, as well as one full lesson that builds background knowledge. In Grades 3–5, students start to master the skills of reading, further opening up their worlds.

Math Curriculum Information

Elementary mathematics in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is designed to create mathematical thinkers. Learning progresses from the concrete to the abstract, building essential conceptual understanding and mathematical fluency, simultaneously developing both mathematical content and language.

Instruction in the elementary classroom utilizes Eureka Math:  a coherent, aligned, focused curriculum.  By using common models and problem solving methods, and an established math block, the student experience progresses smoothly from one grade to the next, and ensures consistency across schools. More information can be found on the Eureka Math Great Minds website and in these Grade 1 Family Materials from MCPS.
