Are You Looking for Things to Do When School is Not in Session?

MCPS has gathered a list of in-person, live, and on-demand opportunities that are available to elementary and secondary students on days when school is not in session. Some of these activities are not affiliated with MCPS. If you are interested in any of those programs, please contact those organizations directly. Upcoming dates: Monday, April 11 through Monday, April 18 (spring break.)

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for the 2022 - 2023 school year is open now in-person and online through the ParentVUE portal.    Click here for more information about the process, including eligibility requirements and important documents needed to register.  More Information about Kindergarten Orientation at Burtonsville ES will be shared with families who have registered their children for kindergarten. 

BES Beautification Spring Clean-Up Day - NEW DATE!

Please join the BES Beautification Committee for another fun family-oriented afternoon of clean-up.  Our plan for picking up trash as well as planting/weeding our flower gardens is the same.  The date, however, has changed.  Our new date is Saturday, April 23, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm.  Thanks to Country Nursery,  we will be able to start off with some plants. If you wish to make a donation, please contact the PTA.  Click here to RSVP for the event.

COVID-19 RAPID TAKE-HOME KIT Distribution

Another round of COVID-19 Rapid Take-Home Test Kits will be available for students and go home in backpacks this coming week.  On Monday, April 18, families are asked to test all MCPS students using MCPS-provided rapid take-home test kits and report positive cases via our online form. 

Please read the Thursday, March 31, Things to Know Message for reminders about how to stay safe during spring break and the use of the Take-Home Test Kits.

Keeping Our Community Safe:

  • Please continue to report positive cases using the MCPS COVID-19 REPORTING FORM  NOTE: Students returning from quarantine are still required to wear a mask for 5 days as that DHHS guideline has not changed.
  • Keep children home if they have any symptoms of illness,  get them tested for COVID-19 and notify your child’s teacher or call the school office (240) 740-5700
  • Say Yes to the Test  (CIAN DIAGNOSTICS) COVID-19 Random Screening & Rapid Testing - Families can choose to Opt-In for COVID-19 Random Screening and Rapid Tests for their children in grades K-5.  The Opt-In form is only necessary to allow your child to be a part of this testing process. Parents who do not wish to participate are not required to complete a form.

About COVID-19 Testing at Burtonsville ES:

  • Testing takes place every Monday at Burtonsville ES,  for parents who opted-in by completing a consent form.   
  • Results are typically available in 24-48 hours.  
  • CIAN is now sending positive results directly to parents/staff who were tested to the email address submitted on the registration form.
