January 23, 2022
Good evening, Burtonsville ES families. This is your Assistant Principal, Mrs. Gobourne, with the Sunday Night Screamer!
Mark your Calendar:
- January 24 - End of Quarter 2 - No school for students
- February 1 - Professional Day for Teachers - No School for Students
OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME
The Out-of-School Time (OST) is designed to provide students and families with safe and engaging options for students on days when school is not in session (after school, weekends, scheduled school closures). These in-person and/or virtual activities will address academic skills, physical and emotional wellness, and digital learning skills. Visit the MCPS Out-of-School Time webpage for complete details.
NEW Tutoring & Intervention Services
MCPS has contracted with two external tutoring companies to provide direct tutoring services to students. In addition, these vendors will provide 24/7 “Homework Help” assistance, which is available to all students in all courses/grade levels. Services are expected to begin at the beginning of the second semester in January 2022. Click here to learn more about the services offered.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Due to the overall needs in School Health Services (SHS), the Hearing and Vision screenings that were scheduled for January 11-12th, have been postponed. SHS will reassess in February 2022 and send new dates when available.

- Results are typically available in 24-48 hours.
- CIAN is now sending positive results directly to parents/staff who were tested to the email address submitted on the registration form.
*CIAN TESTING HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED (THIS WEEK ONLY) AND WILL TAKE PLACE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2022.
Students in Quarantine or Isolation
If you have a student in quarantine or isolation, MCPS is now providing families with access to a set of pre-recorded videos of instruction in reading and math for students not able to attend school in person due to COVID safety protocols. Students can find links on the MyMCPS Burtonsville ES dashboard. If for personal safety reasons, you are choosing to keep your student home, please notify the school for attendance purposes.
Volunteers are needed to provide support outside the building to help manage and coordinate traffic and other arrival and dismissal activities. Please visit the BES PTA website to sign up.
Have a good night and a great week!
