Sunday Night Screamer (October 17, 2021)
Good evening, Burtonsville ES families. This is your Assistant Principal Mrs. Gobourne with the Sunday Night Screamer.
BES Supper Survey: Burtonsville ES is participating with the Division of Nutrition and Food Services to offer supper to all students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Please complete the parent survey if you are interested in having your child take home a boxed meal at the end of each instructional day. Most meals consist of a sandwich, fruit, and a drink (See a sample menu here.)
Message from the PTA: The annual Trunk or Treat is almost here. Come out to show your creative spirit by dressing up yourself, your vehicle and donating candy on Friday, October 29, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. If you would like to participate or just attend, use this link or visit the BES PTA website: burtonsvillepta.org, to register. Please note: All candy donations must be individually wrapped. Candy with nuts should also be identified to ensure the PTA can provide nut-free options to students with allergies. We can't wait to see you there.
BES NAACP Parent Council - Sign up to take part in the NAACP Parent Council at BES. The purpose of the Parents' Council is to provide a forum through which interested citizens may offer assistance, guidance, and support to African American parents and students of MCPS to pursue the highest quality education possible through encouragement, information, sharing, positive motivation, critical evaluation, and advocacy. Click here to complete an interest form, or contact our BES Representative, Nasser Muhammed, Sr. @Nasser.Muhammad@mcpsmd.net for more details.
Dismissal - If your dismissal plans change, please call the school by 3:30 pm to inform the front office staff. If you need to pick your child up after 3:30 pm, please use the parent pick-up lane. This will help minimize delays and speed up the parent pick-up process. Volunteers are needed for Arrival & Dismissal. Click here to read more and sign up.
Lost & Found - Our lost and found is overflowing with your children's personal items. Please encourage your child to stop by the lost and found rack in the front lobby to look for missing items. Also, please label your child’s belongings; (lunch boxes, water bottles, etc.) to help us return lost items to their owners.
COVID-19 Radom Screening & Rapid Testing - Families can choose to Opt-In for COVID-19 Random Screening and Rapid Tests for their children in grades K-5. The Opt-In form is only necessary to allow your child to be a part of this testing process. Parents who do not wish to participate are not required to complete a form. (See MCPS Website for more details.)
About COVID-19 at Burtonsville ES:
- Testing takes place every Monday at Burtonsville ES, for parents who opted-in by completing a consent form.
- The first few rounds of randomized testing consisted of students whose parents completed the online form.
- Students whose parents submitted the paper consent form have not yet been tested. We are waiting for the county to process those forms before your child can participate in the testing.
- Results are typically available in 24-48 hours.
- Negative results will be emailed by the testing contractor, to the email address submitted on the registration form.
- In the case of a positive result, parents will be notified by the school.
Face Masks - Face masks must be worn in all school buildings, buses and MCPS facilities, regardless of vaccination status.
