Leader in Me(LiM)

Burtonsville ES has started using a new curriculum called, Leader in Me, which is designed to support students develop leadership capacity, and critical life skills to help them be better students and prepare them for life outside of school. Please follow the link to learn about the Leader In Me programs, www.leaderinme.org.

To better understand how we are doing with supporting your child’s development in the areas of leadership, culture, and academics, we are asking you to take a brief survey called the Measured Results Assessment (MRA). The survey is anonymous and will help us comprehend your perceptions of the school and then target areas where we can grow and get better.

The survey will only take 5-10 minutes to complete. Please take the survey: https://www.leaderinme.com/s/burtonsville-elementary-school/families

MCPS News:

MySchoolBucks: Use MySchoolBucks to add school meal money to your child’s account. This will eliminate the need for your child to bring money to school every day. This year, meals (lunch and breakfast) will not be universally free. If your student wants to buy lunch in school, they will need a MySchoolBucks account. Registration Instructions: English/Spanish

Daily Transportation Updates

There is still a bus shortage.  Updates regarding delays and uncovered routes will be communicated on a daily basis by schools and available on the MCPS website.

Read: What you should know about riding the bus. Please carefully review the arrival and departure bus routes provided by the Department of Transportation to determine which bus your child will use to ride to and from school (Bus Arrival - Bus Dismissal).

Chromebooks for Home Use

Burtonsville has chosen the Chromebook cart model, which means student computers remain in their classroom at school in a cart where they are charged and available for instructional use  Monday - Friday.   For schools that have chosen a cart model this school year, students, parents, and MCPS staff can use this form (Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families) to request a home-use Chromebook for MCPS students who do not have access to a personal or home device.

Staff at central office will monitor the requests through the form submissions, will prepare a device, assign it to the student, and will deliver it to the school. The school will distribute it to the student. The home use device is to be kept at home. Requesting the device implies consent of use in accordance with MCPS policy (IGT-RA) and acknowledgment that the Chromebook, software, and issued peripherals are owned by MCPS.

COVID-19:

Thank you to our families for continuing to test when they have symptoms or after possible exposure, for using the online tool to report positive COVID-19 test results, and for following CDC isolation guidelines.

Please remember that while masking is optional, masks are temporarily required in some situations:

  • Students presenting to the health room for evaluation of possible COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Staff or students with COVID-19 infection, after completing five days of isolation, who feel well enough to return to school or work (masks are worn until day 10).
  • Individuals exposed during an outbreak, as an alternative to a 10-day quarantine. Exposed staff and students do not need to quarantine as long as they are symptom-free, and can safely wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure.

Yours In Service,

Kimberly Lloyd, Principal

Terry Gobourne, Assistant Principal
