Mrs. Belott
 
 belott Mrs. Belott received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Drama from the University of Maryland, College Park.  She was a Media Assistant at John F. Kennedy High School for 12 years and the then became the Counseling Secretary here at Westland Middle School.

 Mrs. Kohlerman

14-15 Kohlerman Mrs. Kohlerman graduated from Trinity College with a B.A. in Psychology.  She also has her Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University in School Counseling.  Ms. Kohlerman went on to earn a Post Graduate Certificate in Private Counseling.  She has been a counselor at Westland Middle School for 7 years.
6th Grade
 Slotkowski Ms. Slotkowski attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she completed a B.A. in English and Spanish, as well as receiving her secondary education degree.  She taught Spanish in MCPS for ten years before earning her Masters in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University.  She has worked as an MCPS middle school counselor for seven years; this is her first year at Westland Middle School.

 7th Grade

Ms. Fischer 

14-15 Fischer Mrs. Fischer graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in Psychology.  She went on to earn a Master’s of Science degree in School Counseling from the University of Miami.  She has been working for MCPS for the past 22 years as a Counselor at both the high school and middle school level.  
7th Grade
 Woodard Ms. Gerry Woodard graduated from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh where she earned a B.S. and M.S.Ed. in Secondary Education English.  She taught seventh grade English for two years prior to attending Bowie State University and being awarded a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling.  Ms. Woodard also holds credentials as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a National Certified School Counselor (NCSC).  She has worked as a middle school counselor for the past sixteen years in MCPS and this is her first year at Westland Middle School.  

 8th Grade 

 Mrs. Gama

14-15 Gama

Ms. Gama graduated with a B.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Centro Universitario Newton Paiva, in Brazil. She came to the United States to pursue graduate school and graduated with an M.A. in Developmental Psychology from the New School for Social Research, in New York. She decided to further her studies in the area of education and graduated with an M.A. in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Gama has been working for MCPS for 15 years. She was born in Portugal and lived in 3 different countries, and she speaks Portuguese, Spanish and is now studying French.

 8th Grade 

Ms. Vu

14-15 Vu Ms. Vu received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from University of Maryland, College Park and her Masters of Science degree in Counselor Education from McDaniel College.  This is her third year as a school counselor and her second year at Westland.  

 

 

Mission Statement

As an integral part of the International Baccalaureate World School community, it is the mission of the Westland MS Counseling Department to support the development of “inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” We work in partnership with all stakeholders to promote every student’s academic success, personal, interpersonal and healthy development, and long term planning and goal setting.

Vision Statement

It is the vision of the Westland Middle School Counseling Department to provide a safe and welcoming environment where all students are empowered academically, socially and emotionally to reach their personal and academic potential. 

 

 

Delivery of Services

Our School Counseling Program supports academic, personal, interpersonal, career, and healthy development through individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom guidance. Counselors collaborate with Westland MS staff members, students, parents, and community professionals to identify student needs and to provide the support and resources necessary to maximize personal and interpersonal growth.
