Who We Are...

We are Water Droplets Kids Opera Company and we are third grade students at Stedwick Elementary School in Montgomery Village, Maryland.

Our Experiment

When the water droplets are small, we are not thinking.  When they are big we are thinking.

Keyonne

We are working together to make a puddle and wash away our audience.

Michael M.

The dropper represents us because it can connect two parts to make a bigger one.  When we move them, they disconnect.

Kyler

If we go together we will make a big puddle so that we will be able to do anything we have to do.  If one of the droplets goes away, we all go away and once everyone is gone, the puddle would be gone.  If every droplet stays together, we could get more people into our company and we will have an even bigger puddle.

James

The more the drop gets bigger, the more learning we get.

Will

When a droplet splits, one of the dominoes falls.

Krystal

When I had the big droplet I broke it and that means we are being bad.  That means we are breaking apart.  When I put them together, that means we are working together.

Tyler

Every water drop we squeeze out is one of us.  When we move the drops to get one big flow, we get better.

Lindsey

When we connect it was like we helped each other and we’re thinking all together.

Neha

We experiment with water droplets to see how they represent us.

A Thought About Theme By Precious

Why Are We Making An Original Opera?

We can pass the engery to the audience.

To make our audience know we are smart.

To connect with each other.

To represent who we are.

To make a promise to never give up.

To make each other proud.

Lucas

We have to send a message to the public.

This helps us get along, know each other, trust each other and help one another.

To make us proud of ourselves.

To see how other people think.

Raemont

We will learn how to be in front of a lot of people.

Hadriel

We want to show the world our imagination.

We’re showing the world we can be pensive.

Precious

To show unity is important and that we should not be afraid to go out into the world.

Kahliyah

People can learn from us.

We can make a difference in the world.

If we’re bad, we can change.

We’ll learn from our mistakes.

We’ll be focused with our work.

We won’t be distracted.

We’ll bring ourselves together.

We won’t leave the audience in the dark.

Samantha

To prove that we can be responsible and that we can do more things than parents think we can do.

Cherish

We want to have unity.

Gabriella

To learn how to work as a team.

So we can learn what different jobs there are.

Diego

To do our routine everyday.

Savanah

So that we have a lot of energy by the time we are in 4th grade.

So that we know how to work hard when we grow up and get a job.

So we know how to share our emotions when we feel bad.

So we know how to do the right thing.

So we’re not left behind.

Kathleen

So when we face hard challenges, we will be able to complete the challenge.

To be independent as a group and as a person.

Amiya

This will be the biggest thing in our lives.

Thomas

To make friendships grow.

To change peoples’ feelings.

To enjoy life.

To face our fears.

Danial

We have to show creativity.

We are doing what no one has ever done before.

We need to show the audience who we are.

We need to show that we can do for ourselves.

We need to show we are worth something.

We can show we can solve our problems without help.

Hailey

To experience how hard making an opera is.

So that people can get encouraged to make unity.

Megan

We want to show the public what unity is about.

Lynette

We are kids and we have lots of ideas and that helps us think, think, think!

To help us face our fears.

Victoria

So people won’t think we are JUST kids.

Cameron

We can practice for what we are going to do when we are adults.

The opera will help us to be more talented in life.

The opera will make us more creative.

To learn how to use dangerous things safely.

To help us be more mature.

We can do more than what it looks like we can do.

We will use the things we have done in the future.

Loshe

To be prepared.

To be profound in our thinking.

Yazmyn

To learn opera vocabulary.

To meet new people.

To take a risk.

Krystal

This might help us when we get older.

To learn how to do grown up stuff like fill out an application.

To learn how to project our voices.

To learn new vocabulary.

But most of all, TO LEARN.

Eilenora

To get our talent out.

To do quality work.

To engage the audience.

Chelsea

We make an opera so that we can answer hard questions.

Kyler

To show that we are mature.

Neha

We want to be noticed.

We need to be our best.

Letitia

To show us all the responsibility.

Hakeematu

To get energy and to not let the dominoes fall.

Will

We will show the audience we are not just kids.

We are going to be profound.

James

We find out what we are going to do in life.

We learn how to read and write.

The opera is wrapped around all of our schoolwork.

Grow up and act more mature.

To gain hope.

To learn how to handle the wild life out there.

Don’t just care about yourself.

To make some history.

To learn what unity means and not just throw it away.

To get ready for real jobs.

Nathan

To be prepared for when we get our real jobs.

To learn to care about others.

To be more mature and independent.

To prove to the public that we can make a difference.

To get self control.

To learn what unity and separation are really about.

To take a risk at new things.

To enjoy our work.

Caleb

We work very hard.

We have improved a lot to others.

We engage people with our writing and what we say.

Jakari

To get ready for life as an adult.

Tyler

To think of other people more than ourselves.

Michael

We are going to be profound.

Ryan

We want to lead people to the light and not to the dark.

We think we’re mature.

Joseph

To learn how to be kind.

To not have disunity.

Keyonne

It pulls us in and engages us.

We learn how to spice things up in our talking and writing.

We learn new vocabulary and I mean A LOT of vocabulary.

We put our lives in our opera.

We take ourselves seriously with our work as third graders.

To get ready for the rest of our lives.

To learn!

We learn more about cooperating.

We close our circle, but include everyone.

To give ideas and clarification.

Miranda

We learn how to work as a team.

Julianna

It shows us responsibility.

You have to be responsible and respectful to entertain people.

Aiyana

To keep trying and never stop trying.

Melannie

Unity: A Poem by Sylvie Warren

Out of seeming discord

Ideas start to form

Each person learning from the other

Working together, learning to give and take

To share each other’s strengths

Suddenly united in their one shared goal

On March 7, 2012 a reporter from The Gazette spent the morning interacting with the opera class as the students

performed their opera class duties.  This article appeared in the on-line version of The Gazette a few days later.
