school1About Stedwick Elementary School

 A Brief History:

  • Stedwick Elementary School  is one of four elementary schools within the   Watkins Mill Cluster in Montgomery Village.  Our students matriculate to  either Montgomery Village Middle School or Neelsville Middle School and then on to Watkins Mill High School.
  • Stedwick was originally designed and built on 10 acres in 1974 as an “open space” school.  From September through December of 1974, our students were housed at Whetstone, Watkins Mill, South Lake and in some portables at the then Jr. High School.
  • The school officially opened in  January, 1975.  In 1989, renovations were made providing additional classroom and special program spaces.   In 2008, Stedwick was again renovated adding 12 more classrooms and a new playground and courtyard.

  •  There is a united partnership of staff, parents, and community, committed to excellence in learning.

 Organization for Learning:

Stedwick’s experienced and dedicated staff is organized into grade level teams and provides instruction commensurate with the instructional needs of the students.  Students are assigned to a classroom teacher and grouped and regrouped for learning experiences designed to meet their ability and skill level in each subject area.  Specialists and resource teachers work with students in individual, small group and large group instructional settings and plan with grade-level teams.  Individual classrooms are reserved for music, art, computer lab, reading, speech, and counseling.   In addition, we have a fully resourced media center and a well equipped gymnasium.
