Principal's Corner

Sunday Call to Families 2.4.18

Good Evening Gladiator Families. This is your principal, Ms. Charley-Greene, with updates and reminders for the week of Feb. 12.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, we will have our next GLAD (Gladiator Lunch Advisory Day) session. We will observe a GLAD bell schedule on this day. This schedule allows time for students to work directly with teachers to access grade reports and identify missing assignments. Students with missing assignments will be able to work on those assignments during GLAD sessions. Students without missing assignments will work with peers to participate in study groups or enrichment. The goal of these sessions is to help student avoid the second-semester slump by helping them to stay on track and get ahead.

Online registration for Advanced Placement(AP) exams at Northwood through total has opened. Students should check their MCPS email or the Northwood website for links to online registration. The cost of AP exams at Northwood this year is $98 per exam. The cost can be reduced to $20 per exam by completing an AP exam fee waiver request form. English and Spanish forms can be downloaded, completed, and printed at They are also available in the front office or from AP teachers. Signed, completed, AP Fee Waiver forms must be returned to the main office by February 16, 2018.

Northwood is exploring a new avenue of communication to supplement the methods we currently use. Download the myMCPS Mobile app to receive alerts on your mobile device. Your feedback is welcome.

Families, you should have received a letter from the PTSA AfteProm committee. Please consider making a donation to support a safe alcohol-free environment for our junior and senior prom-goers. We will talk more about this at our next PTSA meeting Feb. 20.

Last week we welcomed our newest Gladiators to Incoming 9th Grade Registration Night. I want to thank you for sharing the good news about Northwood with your friends and neighbors. The number of families making Northwood their first choice continues to grow, in large part by wordof-mouth. I am pleased to share that Northwood is the first or second choice of our next year’s freshman class. We know these numbers will grow as we continue to make Northwood a great place for students to learn and grow.

Looking ahead, Monday, Feb. 19 is President’s Day and school is closed. My staff and I will welcome students back to school Tuesday, Feb. 20.

That’s it for this week’s updates and reminders. Have a great week!
