How to Help Your Child
Improve in Reading and Writing

So often our families whose native language is not English are faced with the challenge of helping their children practice reading and writing. Sometimes they are uncertain as to the best teaching methods to follow. The ESOL teachers, Ms. Segal and Ms Keylor along with Ms. Gill, and Ms. Brown shared information on how families can help their children improve in reading and writing. Interpreters for our Amharic, French and Spanish speaking families were also present.
In addition to describing and demonstrating teaching methods, each family was given a packet consisting of word lists, letter formation charts, and erasable plastic plates that can be used to practice vocabulary and writing. Families also had an opportunity to preview and select books to take home to enjoy and read with their families.
