Career Day

Each year a Career Day is held at Glen Haven. During this motivational day, family and community volunteers from many different types of careers are invited to speak in classrooms about their professions.

Academic Nights

Students and families participate in activities at one of the centers set up throughout the building. This successful event includes hands-on activities in Reading and Math. Academic Nights are held at Glen Haven in the Fall and in the Spring.

Science Fair

Each spring a science fair is held to highlight learning in science and the integration of mathematics. Students decide upon a question, research information, conduct an investigation and communicate their findings of the investigation. The investigation projects are displayed at an evening festival.

School

Back to School Night

Parents and students are invited to two evening sessions (one for K-2 and one for 3-5) in early September to meet the teachers and staff for the upcoming school year.

Family Reading Night

Glen Haven’s annual Family Reading Night is an evening for families to enjoy storytelling, to observe teachers modeling reading and comprehension strategies and to build our sense of community. The evening also includes a book exchange for families to bring in old books and exchange them for new books. The event is held at the school from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Community

Multicultural Celebrations

Through music, theater and storytelling, cultural arts programs enrich the MCPS curriculum, introduce students to many different cultures and help to build a better understanding of our world and each other. All programs are selected based on quality and student interest.

Spring Music Concert/Arts Festival

Student art work is displayed through the school building for all to enjoy. The Glen Haven Chorus performs songs from many different cultures at an assembly.
